NO-SKIP ALBUMS
No Dogs Allowed by Sidney Gish (2017)
No Dogs Allowed by Sidney Gish formed me as an adult. It's a thirteen track album with themes of belonging and fitting in, the feelings of isolation, and the strangehood of growing up. My favorite tracks have to be Sin Triangle and Imposter Syndrome.
Favorite Lyrics::
Two faced bitches never lie, so therefore I never lie.
For human, grossly underqualified // For canine, grossly overqualified.
Bury Me at Makeout Creek by Mitski (2014)
This album got me through high school. I'm not kidding. My favorite tracks have to be First Love/Late Spring and I Will. It used to be Last Words of a Shooting Star, but I like to think the change in song-choice reflects some change in me.
Favorite Lyrics::
I will see your body bare // And still I will live here
Tell me "don't" // So I can // Crawl back in
Selfish Machines by Pierce The Veil (2010)
This album got me through middle school instead. LMFAO. Not kidding, again. Though I like to think I put a lot more of myself into this album than I did into any other album in my life. This introduced me to my love of lyricism. This is one of the emo albums of all time, in my opinion. While the other two are probably some of the best indie albums (though Mitski isn't quite the indie artist anymore, is she?) to introduce yourself to, I'd say this is one of the best emo albums along with another no-skip I put on this list. Track wise, my favorites are definitely Caraphernelia and Disasterology.
Favorite Lyrics::
Hold my heart, it's beating for you anyway // What if I can't forget you?
Can we create something beautiful and destroy it?
Dirty Work (Deluxe Edition) by All Time Low (2011)
This one was kind of my brand for the longest time. Like, the longest time. I wouldn't consider this a no-skip, but it's so integral to me as a person that I feel I have to include it. It's trashy, shitty, and all around a good time. It's not necessarily emo, but it's definitely pop-punk, and I love a good track about how depressed some Midwestern man is over a woman leaving him. Anyway. My favorite songs are ultimately A Daydream Away and No Idea.
Favorite Lyrics::
And I'll keep you a daydream away // Just watch from a safe place so I never have to lose
I can sleep, I can dream, I can change
